Software Engineering Manager

About The Role
We are seeking a highly respected, self-motivated, hands-on engineering manager to lead and manage a group of 5-8 exceptional software engineers while contributing heavily to the platform’s architecture and development. The ideal candidate will be highly adaptive, creative, and impassioned; and inspired by the challenge of building the next generation of application performance management tools.
This job requires strategic thinking, planning, and providing leadership and expertise throughout the development lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of increasing responsibility, and success building and leading technical team(s) in an agile development environment. In addition, he/she will be equally comfortable developing the application from concept to launch with a history of projects that were delivered on time and in budget.
Responsibilities:- Provide technical and architectural expertise, leadership, and vision while aligning the product roadmap with a customer-centric engineering process
- Deliver on initiatives from the business plan and technology strategy leveraging architectural principles for appropriate systems integration and reuse
- Provide daily management of objectives, priorities, tradeoffs, risk and performance management of all reporting staff
- Assign areas of ownership, and ensure engineers have clear priorities and adequate resources
- Design, implement and maintain complex, multiple product modules/sub-systems
- Collaborate with members of engineering and sales teams to identify and define solutions for customer requirements
- Deliver product demos, and assist with proof of concepts and client implementation to ensure customer success
- Help define application standards, conventions and best practices
- Researches and understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues
- Researches new technology or development tools to remain informed of current technology
- Provide career development, and mentoring to team members

- Bachelors degree in CS / EE from a top school
- 10+ years of proven experience developing and architecting large-scale, multitiered applications based on architectural best practices
- Guru-level skills in Java is a must
- Experience designing and building complex, high-volume Java/J2EE, JPA and/or Hibernate environments is a must
- Prior start-up company experience is a must
- Experience building Java based infrastructure products and frameworks like application servers, message bus, performance management tool etc
- Strong strategic thinker with an ability to communicate your vision
- Prior start-up company experience is a must
- Past success at working in a fast pace product development startup environments
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Good SQL skills desired

Senior Software Engineer/JAVA Guru
About The Role
AppDynamics is seeking a Java Guru to join our founding team of exceptional developers to innovate in the area of application management solutions for the enterprise and cloud environment. This is a ground-floor opportunity with great rewards for a strong Java Technologist. The ideal technologist will be a big picture thinker with an exceptional ability to develop market-changing software that will delight the customers. The ideal programmer will have a strong background in building scalable products and enterprise applications in Java, J2EE and .NET technologies with good experience on database design.
Responsibilities:- Performs complex product design activities on systems software which require extensive research and analysis
- Deliver product demos to prove to prospects that we are the best fit solution for their needs
- Performs design, implementation and maintenance of complex, multiple product modules/sub-systems
- Participates in product design meetings
- Performs complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products
- Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions to the problems
- Conducts unit testing and integration testing for functionality and limits
- Assist in performing on-site client work on complex systems
- Design and implementation in order to meet project objectives
- Documentation of development work

- 3+ years of experience in Java/J2EE and object-oriented development

About The Role
Design, architect, and build our UI using Adobe Flex/Flash, ActionScript 3.0, JavaScript, and Java.
Responsibilities:- Smart software engineers that have experience building large-scale complex systems and working on project teams
- Passionate about UI design and development
- Experience building web applications in JavaScript/AJAX, HTML, and CSS
- Experience with or willingness to learn Flex and ActionScript 3.0
- CS background is a must (preferably, from a top tier school)
- Very strong OO design and development skills
- Good visual design sense and creative drive
- Motivated individuals that want to be part of a fast pace startup
- Experience with desktop or mobile UI development and frameworks (Cocoa, WPF/Silverlight, Android)
- Proficiency with visual design tools (Photoshop, Fireworks, Illustrator, Catalyst, etc)
