Cookie Policy

Updated as of September 28, 2015

The Cookie Policy forms part of our general Privacy Policy. You can read the full Privacy Policy here.

This policy sets out details of the cookies that we use on our website and what they do. We use cookies on our website to ensure a great browsing experience for you and to show you relevant advertising from us. If you continue to use our website, you are agreeing to us placing cookies on your computer or mobile device (unless you have changed your device or browser settings to prevent this). If you do not allow cookies, then our website may not work properly for you.

As we make changes to our website we may use different cookies and will give updated details on this page, our website or to you directly if required by law. Our Privacy Policy also gives details of how we collect and use information about you.

If you have any questions about our use of cookies, you can send them to privacy@appdynamics.com.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small files that websites put on your computer hard disk drive when you first visit a website. The next time you visit the website you can be identified from this cookie. Cookies can tell us information about your use of our website, such as how often you visit and what you look at. Cookies also let you store preferences and user names, register products and services, and personalize pages.

2. Different types of cookies that we use

Strictly necessary cookies
These are cookies required for the operation of our website. They include cookies that enable you to log into and manage your appdynamics.com account, including the Support Portal, Community pages and Fan Club.

Analytical/performance cookies
These allow us to analyze how many visitors we have to our website and how visitors use it. This helps us to improve the way our website works, for example, by ensuring that users are finding what they are looking for easily. Examples of cookies we use for these purposes are Google Analytics, Mixpanel, and Inspectlet.

Functionality cookies
These are used to recognize you when you return to our website. This enables us to personalize our content for you, greet you by name and remember your preferences (for example, your choice of language or region).

Targeting cookies
These cookies record your visit to our website, the pages you have visited and the links you have followed. We will use this information to make our website and the advertising displayed on it more relevant to your interests. We may also share this information with third parties for this purpose. Examples of ad targeting cookies we use for these purposes are DoubleClick, AdRoll, and Google AdWords.

Flash Cookies (or Locally Shared Objects)
Websites, including appdynamics.com, that use Adobe Flash can also store small files on your computer that are used in the same way as cookies.  We use Flash Cookies where necessary, as these can hold more information than regular cookies.

We use Flash Cookies inside our product experience to authenticate and manage your appdynamics.com account, personalize your experience and target relevant content, and analyze your use of our website.

When you delete cookies via your browser, your Flash cookies are unlikely to be affected. A website may therefore still recognize your preferences if it used a Flash cookie to save them initially. You may manage your Flash Cookie preferences here: How to manage Flash Cookies

Web beacons
Cookies are not the only way to recognize or track visitors to a website.  We may use other, similar technologies from time to time, like web beacons (sometimes called "tracking pixels" or "clear gifs"). These are tiny graphics files that contain a unique identifier that enable us to recognize when someone has visited our website or opened an email that we have sent them. This allows us, for example, to monitor the traffic patterns of users from one page within our website to another, to deliver or communicate with cookies, to understand whether you have come to our website from an online advertisement displayed on a third party website, to improve website performance and to measure the success of email marketing campaigns.  In most instances, these technologies are reliant on cookies to function, and so declining cookies prevents them from functioning.

Targeted advertising
Third parties may serve cookies on your computer or mobile device to serve advertising through our website. These companies may use information about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide relevant advertisements about goods and services that you may be interested in. They may also employ technology that is used to measure the effectiveness of advertisements. This can be accomplished by them using a web beacon (a single-pixel image file) that collects information about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide relevant advertisements about goods and services of potential interest to you. The information collected through this process does not enable us or them to identify your name, contact details or other personally identifying details unless you choose to provide these to us.

Sharing with social networks
We have functions on our website that enable you to share content from the website via social media. If you use this function then the social media websites may place a cookie on your computer.

If you use the buttons that allow you to share products and content with your friends via social networks like Google, Twitter and Facebook, these companies may set a cookie on your computer memory. Find out more about these here:

3. Why does AppDynamics use cookies?

We use cookies in many ways, including:

  • To make personalized product recommendations, based on your previous visits to our website
  • To remember your preferences
  • To detect performance problems with our website and make improvements to it
  • To allow you to share content with social networks like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google
  • To make sure advertising on other websites is relevant to you
  • To personalize the experience across our properties

4. What do I do if I don’t want cookies on my device?

It is possible to change your browser settings so that cookies are not placed on your device. However, if you do this then you will not be able to login to your account on our website or make use of many of the features and functions available on our website.

The following pages have information on how to change your cookies settings for the different browsers:

Cookie settings in Chrome
Cookie settings in Firefox
Cookie settings in Internet Explorer
Cookie settings in Safari and iOS
For managing Flash cookie settings see here and here.

5. Do Not Track

Currently, various browsers – including Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome and Safari – offer a “do not track” or “DNT” option that relies on a technology known as a DNT header, which sends a signal to websites visited by the user about the user's browser DNT preference setting. AppDynamics does not currently commit to responding to browsers' DNT signals with respect to AppDynamics’ websites, in part, because no common industry standard for DNT has been adopted by industry groups, technology companies or regulators, including no consistent standard of interpreting user intent. AppDynamics takes privacy and meaningful choice seriously and will continue to monitor developments around DNT browser technology and the implementation of a standard.
