Take the Tour

We invite you to experience the AppDynamics difference for yourself.  Navigate through our tour below, and find out how to eliminate blind spots, identify problems quickly, reduce your mean time to resolution, and leverage dynamic orchestration in the cloud.

THE PROBLEM:

Looking for problems in a complex, distributed application usually means looking for a needle in a haystack. Or, at the very least, it means scanning long class-and-method lists searching for relevant data or building custom, costly dashboards. Who has the time—or the money?

The AppDynamics Solution: Transaction Flow Monitoring

Out-of-the-box dashboards from AppDynamics allow you to easily visualize and troubleshoot overall application performance, including business transactions as well as application infrastructure, and all inter-relationships and dependencies. Red/yellow/green indicators help isolate problems quickly. In addition, the AppDynamics policy engine allows you to manage service levels and performance thresholds at the application level as well as for each business transaction and node. The real-time policy engine self-learns the business transaction baselines, defines precise policies with compound conditions and automate response actions, and conducts performance evaluations in real time.

Transaction Flow Monitoring Features:

  • Application dashboards.

Provide a holistic, multidimensional view of both business transaction performance and infrastructure health, with application topologies and data flows as well as metrics on loads, response times, and error rates.

  • Business transaction dashboards.

Shows the distribution of time per tier as well as call and error statistics by tier for each business transaction. Over a user-specified time period, you can see the overall load, response time and errors rate as well as the percentage of requests that were normal, slow, very slow, and the ones that were serious errors. AppDynamics sees every request and can drill into diagnostic snapshots for captured requests.

Policy Engine Features:

  • Dynamic business transaction baselines.

The policy engine allows you to easily create baselines that capture actual performance for any metric and period of time. “Normal” or “acceptable” performance levels can be set for each application, business transaction, and node using a variety of metrics. Baselines may be based on a fixed-period date-range or programmed in self-learning mode based on average performance metrics over a rolling period, and can also be adjusted for daily, weekly, or monthly seasonality.

  • Advanced policy definition.

Pre-configured application-, transaction- and node-level policies using standard baselines are delivered out-of-the-box. Policies can be easily configured to specify conditions, such as average response times, error rates, CPU utilization or memory usage. Automated actions can be defined as well, such as create an incident, send a notification or execute a workflow. Policies can include compound conditions using Boolean expression (e.g., AND/OR/NOT) and may be varied by time window to adjust for daily, nightly and maintenance schedules.

  • Real-Time evaluation.

The policy engine allows you to perform analysis against live and historical performance data. Policies can be defined for a given node and automatically rolled up for multiple nodes within a cluster or tier. Conditions and actions are matched automatically to initiate troubleshooting and problem resolution.
