Agent of Transformation, Customer Engineering Intern, Extensions: Vishaka Sekar

Vishaka Sekar

When did you become an Agent of Transformation?
May 14th, 2018.

Where did you learn your agent skills?
Santa Clara University. Master’s degree in Computer Science.

Fun fact?
I am a huge tennis fan! Also a huge non-fiction fan. Hit Refresh is a top pick!

What made you want to take the leap to AppDynamics?
During my interview, I saw that the people were really excited about their work. Working in the APM space sounded exciting and meeting people who I thought I could really learn a lot from was awesome.

What is the coolest project you’ve worked on this summer?
I am part of the extensions team, so what we do is make extensions that are add-ons to the projects. I am actually trying to enable SSL into a Kafka extension, this way, communication happens in a secular way via Kafka. It’d be a new and super exciting venture.

What has been the most challenging part of your summer mission?
Being able to switch gears between attending to customer calls and writing code. Also, being able to address customer pain points swiftly has been a learning point. Along with that, writing performant code.

What did you enjoy most this summer?
Definitely the tech itself. I got to work with a lot of new products, which I hadn’t worked on before outside of this internship. It really has been a great learning experience trying to monitor Kafka!

What makes AppD Special?
The people on my team! They are really excited about their work and are always willing to help me as a newcomer.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give yourself?
It would be to look at the bigger picture and then delve deeper into the details. Try to do that iteratively. Also, ask a lot of questions!
