Cisco integrates AppDynamics with ThousandEyes to enhance application and network observability

Cisco Systems Inc. is enhancing its observability capabilities with the launch of a new service called Customer Digital Experience Monitoring.

Announced today, the new service is an OpenTelemetry-based bidirectional integration of its application monitoring tool Cisco AppDynamics and network intelligence offering ThousandEyes. Because it’s bidirectional, it can exchange data between those platforms simultaneously and in real time, the company said.

The new offering is all about enhancing user experiences for digital applications. By using its tools to spot anomalies, teams will be able to address any issues that occur with their apps before they impact end users, Cisco said.

By combining AppDynamics and ThousandEyes, Cisco said, it can provide insights into both the application and the network that supports it. It will deliver internet connectivity metrics to application operations teams, and real-time application dependency mapping capabilities to network operators. So both teams get the best of both worlds, Cisco said. It will also help those teams to collaborate more effectively in order to solve problems when cooperation is required, significantly reducing the mean time to resolution with actionable recommendations.

The ability of teams to get a complete picture of their application’s health and user’s experiences will also enable companies to make better-informed decisions and improve business outcomes, Cisco said.

“As digital experiences get simpler for consumers, they become more complex for companies to deliver,” said Liz Centoni, Cisco’s executive vice president, chief strategy officer and general manager of Applications. “Customer Digital Experience Monitoring seamlessly brings together our industry-leading application observability and our unparalleled network intelligence, so that customers can uncover all the application and network dependencies not visible before.”

Cisco said customers can further improve their observability capabilities by implementing Customer Digital Experience Monitoring alongside the Real User Monitoring capability of Smartlook s.r.o. Cisco said last month it intends to acquire Smartlook, which provides tools for analyzing and contextualizing end user digital behavior, later this year.
