AppDynamics Surpasses 30,000 Users of Its Free Product in Less Than One Year

Press Release

AppDynamics Lite Used Across the Globe for Java Application Performance Monitoring

San Francisco, Calif. – May 17, 2011 - AppDynamics, Inc., the leader in application performance management for the cloud generation, announced that the free edition of its solution, AppDynamics Lite, has surpassed 30,000 downloads as it celebrates its one-year anniversary solving java performance problems in production environments.

AppDynamics Lite helps IT Operations and Development teams rapidly troubleshoot and diagnose application performance problems within minutes. The tool is easy to use and gives immediate insight into common application issues such as slow SQL, stalls, errors, and slow response time.  The solution has been met with enthusiasm across the globe, as application owners in hundreds of countries have downloaded and deployed the solution in applications ranging from financial services, technology, SaaS, government, education, and retail.

“We’re thrilled with the flood of support and goodwill for AppDynamics Lite, as evidenced not only by the volume of downloads but by rave reviews on blogs, Twitter, and community forums,” said Jyoti Bansal, AppDynamics founder and CEO. “We knew there was a market of application owners underserved by the tools available for managing java performance, and that market immediately recognized and embraced the wide visibility, deep diagnostics, and sheer ease-of-use offered by AppDynamics Lite.”

While application owners typically use profilers to gather data and resolve problems, such tools are ill-suited for production environments where they will create heavy overhead and degrade the application’s overall performance. AppDynamics Lite runs with less than 2% overhead in most production environments, yet gives complete visibility into a single Java Virtual Machine (JVM) as well as code-level details when performance problems arise.

“AppDynamics’ free version of their APM technology provides advanced capabilities that enable IT operations and development teams to solve genuine application problems in production,” said Bojan Simic, principal analyst, TRAC Research. “By allowing users to experience their approach to application performance management through a frictionless and easy-to-use download, AppDynamics exemplifies a new, transparent approach to APM that already delivers significant operational and business value to IT decision makers.”
