AppDynamics Unleashes Version 1 of its Next-Generation Application Monitoring and Management Solution

Press Release

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 13, 2009 - AppDynamics, a provider of next-generation Application Performance Management solutions, today announced that it has released version 1.0 of its next-generation Application Performance Management (APM) solution.
Founded by visionary entrepreneur Jyoti Bansal, former lead architect at Wily Technology, AppDynamics is founded on the principle that the shift in distributed applications towards cloud, virtual, and physical environments mandates a new kind of application performance management solution. AppDynamics believes in the following tenets:

  • The new world is application-centric, not infrastructure-centric. It is no longer enough to measure the health of servers, networks, and databases as a proxy for application health. This new world requires that application performance and availability across the distributed/SOA architectures in hybrid physical/virtual/cloud environments be effectively managed.

  • Business transactions must be the focus. The old world was satisfied with checking application component health, with no understanding of the interrelationships between components that define a business transaction. This approach is no longer sufficient with modern application architectures.

  • End-to-end transaction visibility is a must. The overall health and performance of complete transactions is what matters. The next generation of Application Performance Management (APM) solutions must be both “deep and wide,&https://portal.appdynamics.com/account/signup/signupForm/39; providing end-to-end transaction visibility as well as drilling into the performance each method and class on-demand.

  • Finally, Application Management must move from passive to active. A closed-loop process where real-time application performance is measured against pre-defined SLAs, and when demand exceeds capacity, APM should dynamically allocate application resources to meet demand. With AppDynanmics application orchestration, customers can dynamically scale-up or scale-down their application capacity across physical, virtual and cloud computing environments.

AppDynamics version 1.0 delivers Application Performance Management Solutions that meet all of these requirements, and also stands out as being extraordinarily easy to use and deploy.

"AppDynamics 1.0 represents the first comprehensive APM solution designed for the world of SOA, virtual and cloud environments," said founder and CEO Jyoti Bansal. "My vision was to start a company that brought relief to IT professionals who are on the front lines, managing application performance, although they no longer have adequate tools to do the job. I wanted to make managing a complex application as easy as reading a Google traffic map, and give IT professionals the ability to not only monitor application performance, but also find and fix root-cause problems. AppDynamics 1.0 is a fulfillment of that vision."

Version 2.0 of AppDynamics, which is expected to include dynamic baseline capabilities as well as providing users the ability to orchestrate capacity in the cloud, will ship early in 2010.
