CakePHP is an open-source web application framework. Such attributes as authentication, validation, database access, caching, and translations are "baked" (pun intended) into its MVC (Model-View-Controller) architecture. Unlike other frameworks, CakePHP does not require complex XML or YAML files to build web applications and can be used with multiple database frameworks including, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL. CakePHP features several well-regarded software engineering methodologies, including Association Data Mapping, Active Record, Front Controller, and Convention over Configuration. It also comes with built-in tools that prevent form tampering, SQL injections, and cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities, and other security concerns. Ample documentation, including an online "Cookbook," is available at its website.
