AppDynamics AppSphere™ 2015, LAS VEGAS – DECEMBER 1, 2015 – AppDynamics, a leading application intelligence company, today announced its Winter ’16 Release, bringing significant enhancements to its Application Intelligence Platform that provide essential support for businesses’ digital transformation initiatives. The new release extends the capabilities of AppDynamics’ industry-first, application-centric Unified Monitoring solution, providing greater visibility into the user journey with detailed user sessions support, and expanded monitoring with Server Infrastructure and Browser Synthetic Monitoring and support for C/C++ applications. The AppDynamics Application Analytics solution, fully and seamlessly integrated with the Application Intelligence Platform, has received major upgrades that dramatically improve the interface and provide richer, deeper insights into users, applications, and the correlations between application and business performance. See separate press releases for an in-depth look at today’s news.
Every business that relies on software — and virtually every business today does — can leverage the advanced capabilities the new AppDynamics Winter ’16 Release delivers. Enterprises engaged in the massive technology undertaking and paradigm shift of ‘digital transformation’ will find these capabilities virtually indispensable.
“It’s a critical time for enterprises to adapt to the new rules of engagement that connected technology is driving,” said Jyoti Bansal, founder, chairman and chief strategist of AppDynamics. “Companies need a deep understanding of their customers, and confidence that their applications are delivering the experience customers expect. They must optimize the business value their applications deliver, and of course, they must be highly efficient throughout the entire process. Our enhanced Application Intelligence Platform is designed to support these imperatives, and enables CIOs and their teams to successfully lead digital transformation in their enterprises.”
Powerful End-User Experience Monitoring
Recent data from Dimensional Research* indicates that more than 80 percent of Web or mobile application interactions involve four or more steps; 40 percent involve seven or more steps. The Winter ’16 Release adds support for real-user sessions, providing a rich and detailed view into the user journey — what actions users take, step-by-step, as they move through the funnel, and how application performance impacts their journey. The contextual user sessions data, across both mobile and desktop, helps companies to better manage user experience; identify opportunities to improve conversion; provide more personalized and relevant support; and connect the dots between application performance and business outcomes.
Also with this release, AppDynamics is delivering Browser Synthetic Monitoring, enabling monitoring of website performance from dozens of locations around the globe, and providing accurate competitive benchmarking and measurement of third-party performance. Browser Synthetic Monitoring enables enterprises to ensure availability and performance of their websites even in the absence of real users. Flexible scripting supports measurement of multi-step transactions, simulating an actual user’s workflow, including entering forms data and other input.
Together, Browser Synthetic Monitoring and Browser and Mobile Real-User Monitoring with user sessions support provide the industry’s most comprehensive view of performance from the end-user perspective in a single intuitive dashboard.
"As a provider of healthcare solutions across the country, ensuring the performance and availability of our solutions is the absolute highest priority in delivering crucial services to patients," said Calvin Chock, vice president of engineering, customer technology solutions for McKesson Specialty Health, a leading provider of IT-based clinical and business support services, and a division of America's oldest and largest healthcare services company. "The AppDynamics Application Intelligence Platform provides an end-to-end view of the true experience our customers are having, and the visibility the platform gives us from browser to application to database enables us to proactively address performance issues before they impact our customers."
Enhanced Unified Monitoring
AppDynamics Unified Monitoring provides industry-leading, end-to-end visibility from the end user through all the application layers and their supporting infrastructure, enabling comprehensive management of end-user experience and application health. It is a comprehensive, fully integrated solution that replaces multiple siloed tools, dramatically speeding up MTTR (mean time to resolution), and facilitating more effective cross-team, cross-discipline collaboration.
With the Winter ’16 Release, Server Infrastructure Monitoring becomes generally available, enabling IT operations to proactively isolate and quickly resolve server performance issues in context of business transactions. Enhancements include: support for Windows servers; user interface upgrades, enabling drill-down to server metrics directly from the application flow map; and the ability to monitor servers that do not have an AppDynamics agent installed.
"Bringing server monitoring and APM together into one live, real-time dashboard within the same tool helps us rapidly troubleshoot application performance issues," said Marcel Lichter, team lead, data centre management at RWE Supply & Trading, one of Europe's leading energy trading houses. "If there's an application issue caused by a server, it points us directly to the server that's causing the problem, allowing for a faster and more efficient way to resolve issues before they impact the application stack and ultimately, the end-user."
Unified Monitoring now also supports C/C++ applications through a monitoring SDK that enables the same real-time, end-to-end, user-to-database performance visibility as other supported languages, for rapid root-cause analysis and issue resolution. Like all components of Unified Monitoring, the C/9C++ capability includes automatic discovery and mapping of all tiers that service and interact with C/C++ applications, and business transaction contextualization for performance reporting.
Lastly in Unified Monitoring news, AppDynamics announced the release of 25 new extensions, including 19 for monitoring Amazon Web Services (AWS) components. The AppDynamics Exchange now offers nearly 150 extensions to extend monitoring coverage for specific application and infrastructure components.
AppDynamics Application Analytics is a rich, highly extensible, real-time analytics solution that gives IT and business teams deep insights into customer behaviors, and illuminates the correlations between application performance and business metrics. According to Dimensional Research* data, 96 percent of respondents say it is “important to get business impact and performance metrics quickly”; nearly half say it is “very” important.
Addressing this need for immediate, actionable insight, the Application Analytics update delivers: support for more data sets, including all of AppDynamics APM data, log data, and APIs for importing/exporting external data sets; a custom SQL-based query language that enables unified search and log correlation with business transactions; a number of user interface enhancements and new out-of-the-box data widgets; and role-based access control. These improvements allow enterprise users to immediately access rich customer profiles and behavioral data, and to quickly and conveniently perform customized queries to get the insights they need to more effectively engage their customers and make decisions that optimize business outcomes.
