SAN FRANCISCO – January 20, 2016 – AppDynamics, a leading application intelligence company, today announced that McKesson Specialty Health has selected the AppDynamics Application Intelligence Platform for its distributed software development and production environment. The use of AppDynamics is in support of the company’s digital transformation initiatives. McKesson Specialty Health provides IT-based clinical and business support services that keep community care practitioners at the forefront of excellent, efficient care delivery, while enabling quality of life and financial security for clinicians.
“After seeing AppDynamics during our evaluation, the team collectively decided the product exceeded our requirements,” said Calvin Chock, vice president of engineering, customer technology solutions, McKesson Specialty Health. “The on-premises version of the AppDynamics Application Intelligence Platform deployed and started delivering value within two weeks. Previous tools we’ve used took months to get running and didn’t provide this level of intuitive performance insight,” continued Chock.
The AppDynamics Application Intelligence Platform provides McKesson Specialty Health with exceptional levels of visibility into the performance of its distributed Java-based applications that run JBoss and WebLogic in a clustered SaaS environment with an Oracle back end. “The AppDynamics Application Intelligence Platform provides an end-to-end view of the true customer experience—from the time our customers’ browsers enter the applications, all the way through the application stack. This gives us the ability to understand performance issues that may be caused by a single line of code within the application,” said Chock.
McKesson Specialty Health uses AppDynamics Application Intelligence Platform to monitor and optimize performance of its Java-based iKnowMedSM EHR and Lynx Mobile® applications and associate reporting modules. “High availability and responsive transaction performance are critical for these applications,” said Chock. “These SaaS-based applications are not just mission-critical from the app’s perspective—they’re critical for delivering essential services to cancer patients.” McKesson Specialty Health’s iKnowMed was named the number one Electronic Health Record (EHR) system for oncologists and hematologists by Black Book Rankings and one of the company’s fast-growing products.
AppDynamics also produced a nice side effect for McKesson Specialty Health. “The AppDynamics user interface is extremely easy to use. This has resulted in broad-based adoption across McKesson Specialty Health groups by new user communities—without training or previous product knowledge. Today, our DevOps team uses AppDynamics to test applications during development, allowing us to proactively avoid many issues. If an issue does arise in our production environment, we simply drill down to the problem and fix it,” said Chock.
“The ability to improve the customer experience for complex SaaS-delivered applications offers incredible customer value,” said AppDynamics’ Founder and Executive Chairman Jyoti Bansal. “We are very excited that leading medical systems companies such as McKesson Specialty Health are gaining operational efficiencies and better serving patients with the AppDynamics Application Intelligence Platform.”
