Hands-on Labs at AppSphere 2016

AppSphere 2016 attendees may attend two-hour, instructor-led hands-on labs to evaluate and become familiar with AppDynamics modules. Attendees are required to register for these hands-on labs in advance, complete pre-requisite exercises, and bring their own laptops to participate. 

APM (Java) Hands-on Lab (Advanced)

In this two-hour, instructor-led hands-on lab, attendees will learn about advanced features of AppDynamics APM. This lab will focus on getting deep introspection into the Java runtime environment, best practices for identifying and diagnosing

  • Java heap leaks
  • Processor intensive code
  • Thread synchronization issues

The lab will start with an overview and live demo of these features followed by hands-on exercises and Q&A. To get the most out of the lab, attendees will be required to complete pre-requisite exercises and bring their own laptops.

DevOps Continuous Integration/Delivery Hands-on Lab (Advanced)

In this two-hour, instructor-led hands-on lab, attendees will learn about advanced features of AppDynamics APM that DevOps teams can leverage in continuous integration and delivery processes. This hands-on lab will cover

  • Automating agent deployments with Chef, Puppet, and Ansible
  • Monitoring Microservices using Service End Point
  • Best practices for managing containerized environments

Server Visibility Hands-on Lab

  • Troubleshooting application performance issues caused by server issues
  • Configuring Service Availability Monitoring for HTTP services

  • Analyzing mobile app crashes

Application Analytics Hands-on Lab

In this two-hour, instructor-led hands-on lab, attendees will learn how to get started with the AppDynamics transaction and log analytics modules and evaluate key features. Topics include:

  • Bringing your custom data into the analytics platform: Learn how to set up custom events like transactions, browser, log, and mobile.
  • Using the product: Use advanced query language and pre-built widgets to create custom dashboards. Set up/schedule reports, alerts, and access control filters for privacy.
  • Log analytics basics: Configure Grok patterns and regex fields, set up integrated logs with APM.
  • High-value use cases: Prioritize performance in multi-tenant environments; understand and influence business impact of performance issues; discuss group crashes to monitor change control or release optimizations; look into breakdown of data silos with APM and integrated logs.
